Washington, February 17 (RHC)-- A squadron of six U.S. Air Force bombers has been flying over the Mediterranean Sea, shows latest data from a live global flight tracker.
The squadron consists of two Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, which are long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bombers, and four Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft designated for refuelling fighter jets in midair, according to the data from Flightradar24 on Monday.
The American aircraft took off from the Royal Air Force Mildenhall base in England on Monday and reached the Mediterranean near Southern Europe and North Africa, with a possibility of heading towards West Asia.
The development came two days after the United States delivered a shipment of 1,800 heavy MK-84 bombs to the Israeli regime. The shipment was withheld in May 2024 by the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden due to its concerns over potential use in densely populated areas of the Gaza Strip, where Israel was waging a genocidal war.
Shortly after taking power, however, Biden's successor Donald Trump lifted the ban on the export of the unguided 2,000-pound (900-kilogram) bombs to the occupying regime.
On October 7, 2023, Israel launched a devastating onslaught on the Gaza Strip in response to a historic operation carried out by the Palestinian Hamas resistance group. Operation Al-Aqsa Flood was in retaliation for Israel’s decades-old violence against Palestinians.
Following over 15 months of relentless aggression, Israel was ultimately compelled to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza, which took effect on January 19, having failed to accomplish its stated objectives within the besieged territory.
Throughout the genocide in Gaza, where more than 48,000 Palestinians were killed, the US expedited the delivery of billions of dollars in military aid to Israel, effectively enabling and supporting the regime’s war crimes against the Palestinian people.
Over 76,000 tons of military equipment, the vast majority of them from the US, were delivered to Israel in the course of the Gaza genocide, according to recent figures released by the Israeli ministry of military affairs.
