U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice rejects Trump’s call to impeach federal judges

Washington, March 20 (RHC)-- U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts issued a rare statement Tuesday rebuking President Trump and his allies over calls to impeach federal judges who rule against the administration. 

Roberts wrote: “For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.” 

Roberts’s statement came after Trump repeatedly attacked U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who ordered the Trump administration to stop using the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport immigrants.  

On social media, Trump called Boasberg a “Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge” and “a troublemaker and agitator.” 

Numerous Trump officials have openly threatened to defy court orders; meanwhile, Judge Boasberg has accused the administration of adopting an approach of “We don’t care, we’ll do what we want.”
