Minister Cabello revealed that the Venezuelans suffered mistreatment in the United States. "They were handcuffed for three days, without food."

Caracas, March 28 (RHC)-- A group of 178 Venezuelan migrants from the United States returned to their country early Friday morning on a new flight operated by the national airline Conviasa, as part of the Return to the Homeland Plan created by President Nicolás Maduro.

Venezuela's Minister of the Interior, Justice, and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, received the Venezuelans, 165 men and 13 women.

As part of the cooperation agreement between the two nations, a U.S. plane transported the 178 migrants from the South American country to the Soto Cano military base in Comayagua, Honduras.  The Venezuelans then transferred to the Conviasa aircraft, which landed early Friday morning at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, La Guaira state, which serves the Caracas metropolitan area.

Cabello reiterated the Maduro administration's commitment to welcoming Venezuelan migrants who decide to return to the nation, as part of the Return to the Homeland Plan (Plan Vuelta a la Patria), a free program through which more than 1.2 million Venezuelans have returned since its launch in 2018.

The official explained that 1,297 Venezuelans have returned through the humanitarian plan via eight flights since last February.  The minister revealed that the Venezuelans suffered mistreatment in the United States.  "They were handcuffed for three days without food. Today they were given food," he said in a press conference after the Venezuelan migrants disembarked the plane that brought them back to their homeland.

"It is the government's will to assist every Venezuelan who wants to return to the country," said Cabello, who reiterated that they will not rest until all of them return to Venezuela.  At the same time, he again demanded that the Salvadoran government return the more than 200 Venezuelans who have been held captive in a prison in that country for 12 days.
