Washington, March 31 (RHC)-- U.S. President Donald Trump threatened this Sunday to bomb Iran and impose secondary tariffs if the Persian nation does not reach an agreement with the White House on its nuclear program.

In statements to a U.S. media outlet, Trump said that "if they don't reach an agreement, there will be bombings."  "It will be bombings like never before seen," he said in an intimidating tone.  He added: "But there is a possibility that if they don't reach an agreement, I will impose secondary tariffs on them as I did four years ago."

Without offering further details, the White House resident said that US and Iranian officials are holding talks.  Following a script dictated by the Zionist state, which has been unable to subdue Iran, Washington accuses Tehran of enriching uranium to develop weapons. This, despite Iran's emphasis on the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, unlike Israel's.

Previously, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran, in a letter, responded to the White House that it refuses to hold direct talks on the issue.  He stressed that Iran remains open to negotiations with the US through mediators. Previously, Iranian officials declared that they would not negotiate with Washington under pressure or blackmail.

Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran has never shied away from negotiations and that the US damaged trust by violating its commitments. He urged Washington to work to restore confidence.  "It is this U.S. behavior that will determine the future path of negotiations," he said.

In 2015, Iran and six mediating countries—Russia, the U.S., the UK, China, France, and Germany—signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which established a set of limitations on Iran's nuclear program to prevent it from developing into a military program.  In return, the West pledged to lift unilateral restrictive measures against Iran.

The U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA in May 2018—during the previous Trump administration—and did not lift the pressure measures.

According to the Geopolitical Sanctions Map, the West has imposed a total of 2,797 unilateral restrictive measures on Iran.  This represents 7 percent of the sanctions imposed by imperialist countries on other states.  Fifty-two percent of these measures are aimed at affecting Iran's industrial sector.  In the case of the US sanctions, they focus on the oil sector, the economy, and finance.
