United Nations, April 22 (RHC)-- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has condemned Israel’s intensified attacks on Gaza, saying nothing can justify the “unimaginable suffering” and “collective punishment” of the Palestinian people.

The UN agency said on Monday that a majority of Gaza’s population suffering from the atrocities are civilian children, women, and ordinary men.  "Nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people," it said.

UNRWA currently operates 115 shelters across the Gaza Strip, housing more than 90,000 displaced persons who have lost their homes as a result of the disproportionate bombings.

It warned that the ongoing blockade, i.e, the prohibition of the entry of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies, is further worsening the already-catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The United Nations estimates that approximately 420,000 people have been displaced again since the Israeli occupation resumed its aggression on the Gaza Strip on March 18.

Israel’s relentless bombardment of Gaza continues, with at least two people killed in an attack on tents in the so-called safe zone of al-Mawasi. Four others were killed in an attack on a home in Khan Younis on Monday.

Hospital sources in Gaza reported that Israeli attacks from Sunday morning to midnight martyred 31 more Palestinians in various parts of Gaza.
