Bogotá, November 27 (RHC) -– Politicians, artists, human rights activists and intellectuals have demanded the resumption of the peace process between the Colombian government and the FARC rebels, recently interrupted amid a military crisis.

Personalities in favor of the continuity of the peace talks include Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, U.S. singer/songwriter Stevie Wonder, and several Colombian senators, who advocate a resolution of the armed conflict in that South American country.

The peace dialogue taking place in Havana since 2012, was interrupted by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos following the capture by FARC rebels of Colombian Army General Ruben Darío Alzate and two other companions in the Western department of Chocó.

The FARC already agreed to release the prisoners, after which the talks will resume, this according to a Colombian government official statement. Another prisoner-release operation in conjunction with the Red Cross is scheduled for Saturday after a previous move was called off following intensified military movement in the area, a FARC spokesman said.
