La Paz, December 22 (RHC-PL) -- Bolivian journalists described the agreement between Cuba and the United States to restore relations as the most important event of 2014 in the international arena, but warned of the obstacles the U.S. congress will put in its path.

The theme focused discussions of a TV programme that every week brings experts together to analyse current events.

“I think it's the News of the year,” said reporter Carlos Soria, while his colleague Mery Vaca highlighted as an important aspect in that decision that both countries are willing to normalize diplomatic ties, respecting their differences.

However, the two professionals agreed that one of the most difficult steps hereafter will be that the U.S. Congress –- dominated by the Republican Party -- lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than half a century.

Meanwhile, journalist Veronica Rocha considered the rapprochement between Havana and Washington a triumph of Cuba's resistance because a political decision was made on behalf of a people.

On the other hand, an editorial in the newspaper El Diario noted that the deal dispelled the isolation of the two governments and contributes to improving Latin American relations.
