Caracas, February 26 (teleSUR-RHC)-- In two separate incidents, supporters of the right-wing opposition in Venezuela engaged in acts of violence on Wednesday, in one case mistakenly attacking a young person they believed to be a government supporter.
A group of opposition supporters, who had set up a road blockade in the upper-class district of Chacao in Caracas, attacked a passer-by solely because they thought he was a supporter of the government.
A video of the attack was shown on the program Zurda Konducta. In the video, the young man is seen with blood on his face while voices off camera are heard calling for his lynching. The young man claims he is not a “Chavista” as he walks away from the violent crowd.
The governor of Tachira, Jose Vielma Mora told teleSUR: “The right-wing always looks toward violence, they seek to smear the government, our democracy and try to make us look like ogres in front of the whole world.”
The opposition supporters were protesting the recent death of a teenager, Kluibert Roa, who died after a clash between protesters and police on Tuesday. A police officer is in custody in connection to the death of Roa.
President Maduro expressed his condolences to the teen's family and told the country on his television program that justice would be carried out. “If an official commits a crime, I will be the first to demand justice,” said Maduro.
