Brasilia, May 12 (RHC) -- A legislative proposal for political reform in Brazil seeks the end of the re-election of prefects, governors and the president of the Republic, legislator Marcelo Castro, promoter of the initiative, said Tuesday.
The draft document, which also establishes five-year terms for all elected popular posts, was to be presented Tuesday at a Special Parliamentary Committee, that should approve the document before it is submitted for discussion at the Chamber of Deputies, Castro stressed.
That initiative also advocates the holding of elections at all levels on the same date, he noted.
Some politicians have called attention to the gaps of this initiative, which leaves re-election possibilities open to lawmakers.
