Managua, July 11 (RHC)-- The Grand Canal of Nicaragua is very important to this nation and for all humanity, because of the need to improve maritime Atlantic-Pacific relations, said sociologist Franco Freddy.
In an interview with Prensa Latina, the Nicaraguan professor remarked that with the new canal, costs for the countries of the Americas, Europe and Asia, and even for the United States, will be less expensive.
According to the source in that program essential goals for poverty reduction , employment generation , better distribution of wealth , and sustainable and diversified economic development are plotted .
The Nicaraguan sociologist -- who also serves as the director of the Federation of University Workers of Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean -- said that some 5,100 ships per year will travel through the new canal. He added that the Nicaraguan connection between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans will transport five percent of the entire world trade, which cannot be assumed by the Panama Canal.
