Caracas, August 3 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Greece signed an important energy agreement with the Venezuelan government on Saturday, which marked the end of the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' five-day visit to Caracas.

The agreement seeks to facilitate cooperation in the area of oil production, exports and trade, according to Venezuelan Minister of Hydrocarbons, Angel Gonzalez.

The energy agreement represents a first step to strengthen cooperation for the benefit of both nations and further improve frienship links as well, Prime Minister Tsipras stated during the signing of the memorandum on Saturday.

During his official visit, Tsipras held meetings with senior Venezuelan officials, including the Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs Delcy Rodríguez and Oil and Mining Minister Asdrubal Chavez.

The Greek debt crisis has been monitored closely across Latin America, as several Latin American nations in recent years have opted to reject austerity measures imposed by international financial institutions.
