London, August 17 (RHC)-- British police have made several arrests during a rally against the so-called ‘White Man March’ in Liverpool. According to reports, at least six people were arrested during anti-fascist protests in Liverpool on Saturday.

The arrests were made after scuffles broke out in the streets, with police trying to contain the crowds. Local media say the Neo-Nazi group, National Action, was eventually forced to cancel its ‘White Man March’ after a backlash by anti-fascist groups which saw two counter marches take place. It is unclear whether the arrestees were connected to National Action or the anti-fascist campaigners.

The tensions ran high even before the beginning of the rallies as the anti-fascists tried to confront the neo-Nazis gathering for the march. A group of about 10 neo-Nazis was seen contained inside a train station by police with the protesters attempting to storm the building and break in.

Many locals took to the streets to protest against the “White Man March” with banners reading: “Not in our city.” Demonstrators shouted at the racist marches and plastic bottles were thrown at the neo-Nazis.
