Caracas, September 15 (PL-RHC)-- Venezuelan Ombudsman Tarek Williams Saab has denounced Colombia due to the media campaign unleashed against Venezuela after the partial closure of the common border.

The Bolivarian Executive ordered the closure of passage to and from the neighboring nation in Tachira and Zulia states, as well as special security measures in several municipalities in order to fight paramilitarism and smuggling in the region.

According to the Venezuelan Ombudsman, the Colombian press uses lies and half-truths to show their version of the situation in border areas.

The official recalled that there are about six million Colombians, who came to Venezuela searching for a decent life.

Saab also criticized the Colombian Executive for avoiding historic problems of that country, such as paramilitarism and the violation of the rights of vulnerable groups like farmers and women.

He also criticized the lack of press coverage by Colombia about the number of U.S. military bases in that country and the immunity and impunity of U.S. military personnel.
