Houston, October 10 (RHC)-- In the United States, one person has been killed and another wounded near a college campus in the U.S. state of Texas and a suspect has been taken into custody. The Texas Southern University in the city of Houston was put on lockdown due to the shooting and all classes were canceled, the school said on Twitter on Friday. The incident occurred at the university’s student dormitory, Houston police said. The historically Black university, which has nearly 10,000 students, had reported a shooting incident Thursday at the same student residential facility. The shooting comes just several hours after a student opened fire on the campus of Northern Arizona University on Friday, killing one person and wounding three. A mass shooting last week at the Umpqua Community College in the state of Oregon also left 10 people dead. The rampage brought new urgency to a long debate over rampant gun violence and the need for stricter gun laws. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), firearms are the cause of death for more than 33,000 people in the United States every year, a number that includes accidental discharge, murder and suicides.
