Madrid, December 11 (PL-RHC)-- Former Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva stated that a political trial against President Dilma Rousseff does not have legal grounds, according to El Pais newspaper.

Lula da Silva also said the decision by the leader of the Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Cunha,of accepting a trial against the head of State is an act of revenge against the Workers' Party (PT), which is in power since 2003.

Cunha is acting irresponsibly, without taking the country into consideration, he asserted. Lula highlighted that the achievements by the PT in the last 12 years, as generating more than 10 million jobs and bringing more than 36 million people out of abject poverty.

“Those were successful years. Citizens began to believe in themselves. The people began to like themselves,” he stated. “Brazil grew. A country like this can not be afraid now, because it is going through a difficult time,” he added.

Our essential commitment was eradicating hunger and we achieved it, asserted Lula da Silva, who highlighted the efforts by Rousseff to attain equitable distribution of wealth and foster her nation's growth.

In addition, he considered that the PT government should be acknowledged for creating laws and granting the necessary autonomy to judges and the police to investigate corruption cases.
