Quito, December 12 (RHC)-- Ecuador and Sweden have signed an agreement on legal assistance, which will provide for authorities in Stockholm to interrogate Wikileaks founder Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
A statement issued by the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry explains that the document was signed in Quito, the Ecuadorian capital, by Ecuadorian Deputy Foreign Minister Xavier Lasso and the Director General for International Affairs at the Swedish Justice Ministry Anna-Carin Svensson.
It adds that the agreement provides for strengthened relations between Sweden and Ecuador on judicial issues.
The document guarantees, among other things, the enforcement and respect of national legislation and the international law standards, particularly those pertaining to Human Rights, besides the full exercise of national sovereignty, in any case of legal assistance between Ecuador and Sweden, added the communique.
