Poll Shows 85% of Americans Disapprove of U.S. Congress

Washington, December 30 (RHC)-- According to a new survey, Americans are especially dissatisfied with Congress, with 85 percent disapproving of the legislative body's job performance.

The overwhelming majority of Americans are dissatisfied with the Republican-dominated Congress, with 85 percent disapproving of the legislative body's job performance.

The CNN/ORC poll released on Tuesday found that 14 percent of Americans approving the performance of lawmakers, which is a 7-point drop since February. The survey also found that many people in the U.S. also disapprove of how the government is running the country.

The survey revealed that some 75 percent of Americans express discontent with the government, while 69 percent are at least "somewhat angry" with the country's direction. Republicans are far more angry and dissatisfied with their government than Democrats. Some 90 percent of Republican voters are dissatisfied with "the way the nation is being governed," and 82 percent angry with the country's direction.

President Barack Obama also did not fare better in Tuesday's survey. About 50 percent of Americans view Obama unfavorably, while 48 percent have a more positive opinion. The poll found that 52 percent of Americans disapprove of Obama's handling of the presidency and 60 percent disapprove of his handling of terrorism.

The survey also found that only about half express confidence that the Obama administration can protect American citizens from future acts of terrorism.

The poll of 1,018 people was conducted via telephone interviews from December 18 to December 21 nationwide.
