Bogota, January 16 (RHC-PL) -- De-mining operations have begun in the municipality of Briceño by the Colombian Army and FARC-EP troops, and include three other towns in the department of Antioquia, El Colombiano newspaper reported Saturday.
As agreed in Havana, where the peace talks are taking place, the de-mining work will begin in Ituango, Algeria, and San Luis regions. The extension of this work will not affect the process of eradication of mines in Briceño, stopped to assess progress and steps for improvement, the minister for the post-conflict, Rafael Pardo said, quoted by El Colombiano.
Antioquia is one of the regions with a large presence of those mines, which have left some 11,000 dead and wounded people in the country.
Such procedures are the first measures jointly implemented by members of the army and members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP).
