Buenos Aires, January 16 (teleSUR-RHC) -- Argentinean airline Sol filed for bankruptcy on Friday, leaving 300 employees without jobs and passengers without flights. Neither were provided an explanation, and customers were sold tickets even after the flights were canceled, according to employees.

The directors announced a recess until Monday, when they will negotiate with employees on compensation. The union rejects the 50 percent compensation currently on the table and are planning protests over the weekend. Workers put up signs in the airport demanding a response from the company, and the Association of Technical Aeronautic Personnel announced a “state of alert and mobilization.”

Sol accumulated a US$40 million debt with Aerolineas Argentinas, with their four-month partnership being terminated this week. As part of its deal, Aerolíneas Argentinas, renationalized in 2008, paid Sol, a private company, over US$75,000 a day. Even the union called the contract an “aberration.”
