Port-au-Prince, January 20(RHC)-- Haitian President Michel Martelly has confirmed that the country's presidential run-off elections will take place next Sunday, January 24th, as recommended by Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).
The CEP had postponed the second round of presidential elections originally scheduled for December 27th. amid fraud allegations.
The first round of Haiti presidential elections took place on October 26th, with Jovenel Moise from the Haitian Tet Kale Party and Jude Celestin from Alternative League for Haitian Progress and Empowerment winning nearly 33 and 25 percent of the votes, respectively.
The United Nations says it supports holding the final round this month so a transfer of power can take place by a February 7th constitutional deadline.
