Port-au-Prince, January 29 (RHC)-- Amid an ongoing political crisis in Haiti, the president of the country's Electoral Council, Pierre-Louis Opont, has resigned. Opont announced his decision to President Michel Martelly in a letter dated Thursday, but it was not released to the media until Friday.
The resignation had long been demanded by the opposition and Haiti's economic forum who accused the former electoral president of fraud in the first round of the presidential elections in October.
