Bogotá, February 9 (RHC-Telesur)-- Colombia's Constitutional Court has ordered an end to all mining activities in the country's mountain ecosystem known as the paramo, nullifying an aspect of the 2014 National Development Plan that had allowed exploitation of the unique and delicate ecosystem.
The complaint before the Constitutional Court was raised by environmental groups and lawmakers from the leftist Democratic Pole party.
The 2014 National Development Plan was strongly criticized when it was first introduced for being too friendly to foreign mining companies and transnational capital.
