Quito, April 28 (RHC)-- The strongest earthquake to hit Ecuador in decades has left a wake of devastation killing hundreds and injuring thousands. The Ecuadorean government has said at least 659 people have been killed by the April 16th earthquake, 40 are still missing and over 17,600 were injured.
According to official reports, more than 29,000 people have been displaced and cared for in shelters scattered around the northern coast of Ecuador.
The earthquake was of 7.8 magnitude, and more than 800 aftershocks have rattled Ecuador. According to reports, cemeteries in Ecuador's coastal city have reportedly reached maximum capacity and authorities are working to prevent a health crisis.
