Managua, May 7 (RHC)-- Nicaragua will hold general elections on November 6, to elect president, vice president, 90 national MPs and 20 representatives to the Central American Parliament, the Supreme Electoral Council announced late Friday.

In these general elections to be held the first Sunday of November, the ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front will have the option to elect president Daniel Ortega as their candidate, following a reform to the Constitution that allows him to run for re-election.

Ortega has been President of Nicaragua since 2007; previously he was leader of the Central American country from 1979 to 1990, first as Coordinator of the Junta of National Reconstruction (1979–1985) and then as president (1985–1990).
