Havana, August 13 (RHC)-- The Continental Association of Latin American and Caribbean Students (OCLAE) celebrated it's 50th anniversary with a solemn ceremony at the University of Havana. The activity also served to pay tribute to Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro on his 90th birthday.

The participating representatives from student federations that make up OCLAE in 24 countries presented the Cuban leader with a painting in his honor by young artist Lesmes Lazorra.

With the art piece entitled 'Eterno invencible, escultor de pueblos,' the young artist and OCLAE acknowledge Fidel's tireless struggle in defense of just causes in our hemisphere and around the world.

The historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, along with President Raúl Castro were among the institutions and personalities presented with the Commemorative Medal of the 50th anniversary of OCLAE in recognition of their support for student and youth causes.

Other recipients of the commemorative distinction include also Bolivarian leader, the late Hugo Chavez, former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the five Cuban heroes who served long, unfair prison terms in U.S. jails for fighting terrorism, as well as Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, Bolivia's Evo Morales, Brazil's Dilma Rousseff, and former Colombian legislator and human rights activist Piedad Córdoba.
