Geneva, October 25 (RHC)-- Cuban deputy Yolanda Ferrer was elected as a candidate of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean to form the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) –the international organization of parliaments.

Ferrer, President of the International Relations Committee of the Cuban National Assembly of the People's Power or Parliament, is in Geneva, heading the country's delegation to a meeting of the IPU's Geopolitical Group.

In accepting the nomination, the Cuban deputy thanked the official delegations from the 170 Members and 11 Associate Members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.  The meeting of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean precedes the 135th Assembly of the Geneva-based Inter-Parliamentary Union, during which members will approve the candidates submitted by each geopolitical group to fill current vacancies in the IPU's Executive Committee.
