Havana, January 27 (RHC)-- The presidents of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, and Bolivia, Evo Morales, will participate Monday night in the traditional Torchlight March in Havana.
Both leaders arrived on Sunday in the Cuban capital, where they will attend the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Torchlight March is held every January 27th at 12 midnight to celebrate the birth of Cuban National Hero José Martí, who was born on January 28, 1853.
The first Torchlight March, which occurred on January 27, 1953, to await the advent of the centenary of the birth of Martí, was led by the then-student leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, with the aim of rescuing Martí's ideology.
The tradition is kept alive by college students and youngsters of Cuba. The organizers this year are the National Committee of the Young Communist League and the Federation of University Students (FEU).
The march begins on the steps of the University of Havana and ends at the a moument dedicated to Martí located near Havana's seaside drive, the Malecon, and just around the corner from Radio Havana Cuba's studios.
Cuban President Raul Castro, one of the participants of the first Torchlight March, will also take part in the tribute this evening.
