Havana, October 26 (RHC)-- A U.S. Academic has rejected the travel warning against Cuba issued by the Trump Administration, saying the Caribbean state is one of the world's safest places to visit.

U.S. researcher and author Peter Kornbluh, who has visited Cuba over 120 times, blasted the latest anti-Cuba move by President Trump, saying it violates the constitutional right of U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba.

Kornbluh, who has worked with many U.S. groups traveling to Cuba, told a press conference in Havana that violent gangs, hate groups and scattered weapons on the street –all of which are common things in the U.S.--are simply non existent in Cuba, and that the murder rate on the island is very low.

The U.S. academic, Director of the Documentation Project on Cuba at the National Security Archives of George Washington University, said the Cuban people are widely regarded as warm, friendly, welcoming people.

“The bottom line is that Trump does not want Americans to travel to Cuba because he wants to please Republican Senator Marco Rubio,” Kornbluh said.

I have been travelling to Cuba many times a year since 2001 and I feel safe walking home unaccompanied even at 2 or 3am. It's safer than my home town, London, and I have no fear of getting mugged at gun or knifepoint. American tourists are being put off for no valid reason and this is damaging Cuban tourism. Well done to Obama for starting to open things up and shame on Trump for scaremongering.and shutting things down.
