Havana, November 7 (RHC/ACN)-- The President of the American Confederation of Urology, Jorge Gutierrez highlighted on Monday in Havana the scientific level of Cuba’s professionals and pointed to their enormous experience.
Speaking to the Cuban News Agency, the Chilean expert, participating in the 11th National Urology Congress at Havana’s Convention Center expressed his satisfaction in sharing with his Cuban colleagues and with those of other countries.
Cuba is pioneer in Latin America and other parts of the world in the field, above all in transplants; laparoscopic surgery, mainly carried out in cancer treatment; endoscopy; and the development of the Cuban urologists is constant, said the specialist.
Professor Gutierrez said that there are new techniques, technologies and procedures to treat illnesses previously carried out in an invasive manner, but now the general tendency is to carry out surgeries in a minimum invasive form.
Cuba is a member of the American Confederation of Urology made up by societies of 23 Central American, Caribbean and South American nations in addition to Spain and Portugal, he said.
He stressed that he has been in Cuba seven times participating in several congresses of this type and others in which he carried out surgeries transmitted live from the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital.
Urology includes different specialties among the most frequent is the treatment of kidney stones and urinary tracks; urinary infections, pediatric illnesses and cancer, said Gutierrez.
The President of the American Confederation of Urology offered two symposiums on robotic surgery and minimum invasive with laparoscopic and on kidney stones.
Regarding the introduction of robotic surgery, he pointed out that this type of surgery in the world is carried out by a surgeon and pointed out that the robot is only a sophisticated high technology tool to help the specialist executive the procedure with major precision.
There are indications in prostate, kidney and other types of cancer to only remove the tumor and not the kidney, he said.
Robotics is used in almost all parts of the world and Latin America, with exception of some four countries, Brazil, Argentina and Chile has more experience in the field.
During the opening of the Congress, Carmen Rosa Martinez, National Director of the Health Ministry’s Medical Attention, welcomed the over 200 representatives and guests from several countries, whom will exchange on the latest development in urology until Thursday.
Dr. Emilio Cordies Jackson, Specialist in Pediatric Urology and President of the organizing committee, said that the different issues of the event, among the surgical treatment of congenital malformations stones through minimum invasive methods and pediatric and adolescence urology.
