Boston, May 4 (RHC)-- Cuban engineer Alexander Lopez Savran is one of the 35 young Latin American innovators recognized by the Spanish edition of the MIT Technology Review magazine for their outstanding work in 2017.

According to the publication, these innovators are about to change the world with technology, highlights Prensa Latina.

Thanks to his work with bio digesters that recycle the waste from a pig farm and transform it into biogas in the town of Cabaiguán, in Sancti Spíritus province, Lopez, aged 31, received an award by MIT in November.

His innovation was rated by the US institution as of 'one of the technological solutions that improve and even save people's lives’. Lopez was the only Cuban included in the MIT Technology Review list in Spanish.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, Lopez explained that the innovation consists of creating a new type of biodigestor which  allows to obtain greater efficiency and distribution of the gas without any waste of energy.

According to the publication, thanks to Lopez´ biodigesters 500 residents of the community have managed to reduce their electricity bill by 50 percent .

They have also managed to reduce the consumption of conventional energy carriers, with a saving of more than 122 megawatt-hours per year, avoiding greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to the care of nature.
