Havana, August 30 (RHC)-- Cuba's Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Rogelio Sierra will lead the country's delegation to the 49th Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), set for September 3rd through the 6th in the Republic of Nauru.

Sources of the Cuban Foreign Ministry said that the meeting is the main event in the Pacific region and brings together representatives from 14 small island states, as well as observers and dialogue partners, a capacity that Cuba has held since 2013.

The Pacific Islands Forum is held annually and aims to arrange positions among independent countries of the Pacific Ocean on important issues such as economics and cooperation, as well as actions to mitigate the effects of climate change and prevent and reduce climate disasters.

The Cuban delegation will have the opportunity to exchange experiences about the common challenges it shares with those nations as small island states. The Cuban representatives will also hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of the Pacific region.
