Havana, March 18 (RHC) Entrepreneurs, farmers and experts from 10 countries of the world attended the inauguration Monday in Havana of the 17th Agricultural and Agribusiness Fair FIAGRO 2014.
The promotion of products and services with high added values to increase Cuban agricultural exports is the goal of the event, said Agriculture Minister Gustavo Rodriguez in his opening remarks of the event.
The fair also contributes to transformations underway in the agricultural sector on the basis of sustainable solutions in the long run, noted the Minister and added that the event must mirror the efforts of the Cuban people to advance towards food sustainability by increasing competitiveness of traditional products and developing new export commodities.
Cuba has to dedicate large amounts of money every year to import food and this marks the need to adopt a better management model with higher efficiency and productivity, he insisted.
The fair, which runs until Sunday, is being attended by 43 companies in a wide array of fields, such as the production of coffee, cocoa and bee honey, which are important hard currency sources for the country.
