Marrakesh, December 12 (RHC)-- Cuba has ratified its commitment to the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. The agreement was adopted at the United Nations Intergovernmental Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco.
At the conference, the Director General of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rodolfo Reyes, stressed the importance of the agreement to eradicate discriminatory and xenophobic doctrines and policies.
The Cuban official also rejected the management for political purposes of the migration issue, and reiterated Cuba's solidarity with the Bolivarian government of Venezuela.
According to reports from the United Nations, governments around the world -- with the exception of the United States -- have committed to increasing the avenues for regular migration, improving the protection of migrants and guaranteeing them basic services.
