Washington, March 24 (RHC) The U.S. pacifist Cindy Sheehan has expressed her support for the international days of solidarity to be held in Washington from June 4th to the 11th dedicated to the Cuban Five, 3 of whom remain imprisoned in the United States.
Sheehan joined a growing group of individuals who have shown support for the 3rd international campaign "5 Days for the Cuban 5" in Washington DC, organized by the International Committee to Free the Cuban Five.
The event, which will bring together lawyers, parliamentarians, religious people, writers, intellectuals, labor leaders and activists, will once again demand that President Barack Obama use his executive powers to release Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero and Ramón Labañino.
So far, only two members of the Cuban Five -- René González and Fernando González -- have been released after fully serving their wrongful convictions and are living now in Cuba.
The well-known world personalities who have already added their names include academic Noam Chomsky, actor Danny Glover, writer and professor Angela Davis, journalist and writer Ignacio Ramonet, former U.S. Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, Mexican anthropologist and writer Gilberto Lopez y Rivas, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, among others.
Sheehan, who lost her son in the war waged by the U.S. in Iraq, has publicly stated that she loves the families of the Five. She has also reiterated her solidarity with the Cuban people, which, she said, fights for peace and justice.
