United Nations, March 24 (RHC)-- Unilateral economic, commercial and financial sanctions against sovereign nations were strongly condemned at the United Nations at the end of the 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.

A final document adopted by the two-week forum particularly condemn sanctions imposed by super powers especially on developing nations by stating that such actions run contrary to the UN Charter and international Law.

The Commission, which was set up in 1946 to boost gender equality and women’s empowerment, called on the international community to abstain from supporting such measures and to condemn as soon as they are launched.

Diplomats at the commission told reporters that most delegates to the forum had in mind the U.S. blockade of Cuba at the time of adopting the final document.
