Havana, February 21 (RHC)--  Representatives of Cuban religious denominations are staging a vigil for peace in Venezuela and against Washington’s threat to invade the South American nation.   During the vigil, held at the First Reformed Presbyterian Church in Havana, participants reiterate their strong rejection of an eventual U.S. military intervention in Latin America, and call on the Venezuela government and opposition to seek a peaceful, negotiated resolution to their problems without foreign interference.

The vigil adds to a campaign launched a week ago, in which  Cubans are signing a petition that denounces threats of U.S. military aggression against Venezuela.   The campaign is taking place across work centers, educational institutions, health care centers, military facilities and local neighborhoods nationwide.

The document condemns U.S. attempts to manipulate the issue of humanitarian aid in order to justify military intervention in the Bolivarian Revolution and oust Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro.

To date, hundreds of thousands of Cubans have signed the petition demanding that Washington keeps its hands off Venezuela and respect for the South American country’s sovereignty and independence.
