Havana, April 18 (RHC)-- The Cuban government has called on the international community and the U.S. people to stop Washington's escalation of aggression against Cuba.

In a declaration by the Revolutionary Government Wednesday night, Cuba condemned the hostile policy of the Donald Trump administration as irrational, and pointed to the blockade imposed on Cuba for almost six decades.

In response to new U.S. measures to try to bring Cuba to its knees, the statement said: "The Member States of the United Nations, year after year, almost unanimously, call for the end of this economic war."

"U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday announced the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Law of 1996, aimed at 'regime change' in Cuba."

This move permits the filing of lawsuits in U.S. courts over properties nationalized by the Cuban revolutionary government, accusing the businesses involved of 'trafficking' with 'confiscated' goods, basically in an attempt to curb Cuba's access to foreign investment.

U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton has now disclosed additional sanctions to weaken the Cuban economy, by reducing the remittances sent by Cubans living in the U.S. to their families on the island.

The Cuban government, for its part, has repudiated Washington's escalation of its hostile measures and has predicted its inevitable failure.
