Havana, May 23 (RHC)--Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, presided over a meeting of the Productive Scientific Hub of Havana, Artemisa and Mayabeque provinces.

During the event it was disclosed that 31 medical equipment and 15 high technology devices are being developed by scientists on the island, in an effort to contribute to the improvement of the quality of health care, replacing imports and bringing technological sovereignty to the country.

According to doctor Jose Luis Fernandez Yero, these equipment and devices will be gradually introduced into the National Health System from this year until 2023, allowing the country to save more than 115 million pesos.

Involved in the design and manufacturing of the products are BioCubaFarma Firm, the ministries of Industry and of Science, Technology and Environment, as well as universities, and their purposes include, among others, the early prognosis of heart diseases, auditory and sight screening of newborns and children in the first months of life, and rapid detection of urinary tract infections.

They will also assist caregivers of patients with dementia and will aid in the management of biohazardous waste generated in health facilities.

President Diaz-Canel commended the progress being attained in the field and highlighted the scientific-technological potential that the country has in such a sensitive branch for the Cuban population
