Havana, August 29 (RHC)-- Thirty years after its first edition, a new Atlas of Cuba will be released soon, being the first fully created by experts in the country.

The "National Atlas of Cuba 60 Anniversary" -- created by the Ministryof Science and Technology Institute of Tropical Geography in honor of the anniversary of the 1959 triumph of the Revolution -- is also designed to be used in multimedia.

The Atlas has been organized in seven thematic sections: General and Reference Maps, Nature, Population, Economy, Strategic issues, History and Culture, with 200 maps, and aims to have a "living atlas" thanks to its rapid, systematic and economic updating.

José Miguel Marrero Basulto, specialists in charge of the project, explained that the authors of the new atlas are "highly qualified professionals and technicians from various scientific and educational institutions", while at the same time "modern technological procedures" were applied for its creation.

According to Basulto, although the digital elaboration of the work can reduce the costs of traditional technology, its implementation on the web has not been applied before in Cuba, a fact that has prompted its makers to "learn by doing."

The previous atlases of Cuba were published in 1970, 1979 and 1989, with national and international awards, and had an important participation of foreign entities and specialists.
