Havana, October 27 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez and his delegation visited Sunday the Hermitage, St. Petersburg's leading art museum and one of the largest in the world.

Located in the heart of that Russian city, between the seawall of the Neva River and the Palace Square, the Museum occupies five linked buildings (the Winter Palace, the Hermitage Theater, the Small Hermitage, the Old Hermitage, and the New Hermitage) that form a beautiful architectural ensemble.

The installation contains more than two and a half million cultural and artistic objects from the peoples of Europe and the East, from the most remote times to the 20th century.

Upon arriving in St. Petersburg, the Cuban president visited the Piskariovskoye cemetery, where the remains of more than 50,000 soldiers and 400,000 civilians who died during the Nazi blockade of Leningrad rest.

Diaz-Canel recalled the role played by the Heroic City of Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War and pointed out that it is an example of resistance. "These are facts that should not be forgotten so that they do not happen again," he said.

The dignitary then continued his tour of the emblematic Aurora Battleship, whose shots were decisive in the surrender of the Tsar and the seizure of the Winter Palace in 1917.
