Havana, November 1 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez urged the social and popular movements and political forces of the left and progressives to move forward in close unity and to mobilize all people of goodwill to confront neoliberal capitalism.
Intervening on Friday at the opening of the Anti-imperialist Encounter of Solidarity, for Democracy and against Neoliberalism, Cuba's top diplomat assured that imperialism is the first and most significant enemy of the peoples.
Rodríguez described capitalism as unfeasible, irrational, and an unsustainable model of production and consumption, and considered the government of Donald Trump as the main threat to international peace and security.
To sustain his assertion, he mentioned the withdrawal of the United States from the Climate Change Paris Agreement, the launch of a new arms race, and its flagrant violations of human rights and state sovereignty.
He also pointed to Trump's xenophobic discourse of hatred and intolerance and attempts to impose a totalitarian model that destroys cultures and national identities.
Rodriguez expressed his gratitude for the invariable and profound solidarity of the world with Cuba and said he felt it was his duty to warn that difficult times are coming, in which the efforts of all in the face of the aggression of U.S. imperialism will be decisive and possibly determining.
In this connection, he denounced the current escalation of the U.S. government against the Caribbean island, which in recent months has been applying new, unconventional, criminal and specific measures to prevent, resorting to all kinds of pressure, persecution, and blackmail, the supply of fuel to Cuba from various markets.
"We are talking about the fuel required, not for development, but for the vitality of the country itself," said Cuba's foreign minister, and highlighted the firm response offered, in the face of such a contingency, by the Cuban people, always heroic, supportive, creative, conscious and willing to do everything to preserve each one of its conquests.
