Havana, November 4 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel attended on Monday the meeting of the Sao Paulo Forum Working Group held at Havana's Convention Center.   The Forum is a regional political space for consensus-building and action by progressive movements in Latin America and the Caribbean.

During his speech, Diaz-Canel reiterated the need to defend the truth against lies and manipulation. He advocated unity, articulation, and coordination at a time when history is being made.

In the same way, he called for a battle for the truth, to defeat the lies on which wars of all kinds are waged against our peoples.

José Ramón Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, presided over the meeting Monday morning.  He highlighted the importance of the Forum as an entity for the integration and articulation of the left.

As part of its agenda, the Working Group analyzed the progress of electoral processes and environmental challenges in the current context.

The judicialization of the policy against progressive leaders and the rejection of the imprisonment of the former Brazilian president Lula da Silva also focus the debates in this meeting; in addition to the revision of the agreements adopted in the conference in Caracas, Venezuela, last July, especially in the area of communications.
