Ambassador José Carlos Rodsriguez spoke on the occasion of the approval of the Provisional Strategic Plan Cuba 2020 of WFP

Havana, Nov. 20 (RHC) Cuba's permanent representative to the UN's international organizations based in Rome, José Carlos Rodríguez, stressed on Wednesday that the island will continue to prioritize the human right to food for all, without exclusion.

Rodriguez, who is also the ambassador of the Caribbean nation to Italy, spoke on the occasion of the approval of the Provisional Strategic Plan Cuba 2020 of the World Food Program (WFP), presented at the headquarters of that organization.

In his speech, the diplomat thanked the WFP for the "immediate support provided after the devastating tornado that affected several municipalities in the Cuban capital in January of this year," an aid that he described as effective and very significant.

Rodríguez stressed that this Plan, made in conjunction with the Country Office and the WFP representative in Cuba, Paolo Mattei, responds to national priorities aimed at ensuring food for the population and praised "the excellence of objectives and the rigor with which it was prepared".

He further stated that despite the adversities, "Cuba will continue to make progress in eradicating poverty and hunger, and free and universal access to basic services for the population is preserved, while at the same time supporting vast social protection programs.

"Food security and nutrition were, are and will continue to be issues of the first order for the Cuban government and constitute a key objective of the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030," he said.
