Havana, December 2 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel sent greetings to the members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the landing of the Granma yacht expedition, headed by Fidel Castro in 1956.

“Granma arrived, its 82 expeditionaries entered, and the Rebel Army was born, the embryo of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. I embrace our gallant troops and their chiefs, officers, and soldiers. They are the invincible shield of the Homeland,” the President wrote on Twitter.

Earlier on Monday, 82 young Cubans re-enacted the landing of the expeditionaries of the Granma yacht.

The symbolic remembrance took place in Los Cayuelos, the exact site of Las Coloradas beach, in the municipality of Niquero, where the main leaders of the last national liberation war arrived on the island in 1956.

Young people of the historical locality, together with others coming from neighboring provinces, all with a relevant student or labor performance, re-enacted the event.

Gathered in the National Monument erected at the location, a representation of the new generations of the host territory and guests pledged to continue the legacy of those 82 brave people who led the final push against the U.S. backed Batista dictatorship.
