Havana, December 8 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, highlighted on Sunday the sovereign and dignified policy of the Caribbean nations concerning Cuba, on the 47th anniversary of those ties.

On Twitter, the president wrote: "Today, December 8, we are celebrating 47 years of Cuba-Caricom relations. The small nations of the Caribbean, with their sovereign and dignified policies, were pioneers in opening their arms to Cuba when the empire demanded our isolation."

Right after the independence of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago in 1972, they immediately established diplomatic ties with Cuba.

That historic decision was fundamental in the struggle to break the diplomatic blockade imposed by the United States to isolate the Caribbean island.
