Havana, January 7 (RHC)-- The election of provincial Governors and deputy Governors will take place on January 18, as agreed by the Council of State. On that date, the delegates to the municipal assemblies of People's Power from all over the country will meet simultaneously to exercise their vote.

Following the nation's Magna Carta, there is a Provincial Government of People's Power in each province that functions in close connection with the people. It is made up of a Governor and a Provincial Council.

The primary mission of this Provincial Government is to oversee the economic and social development of its territory under the general objectives of the country and acts as a coordinator between the central structures of the State and the municipalities.

Furthermore, it contributes to the development of the activities and the fulfillment of the plans of the entities established in its territory that are not subordinated to it. At the same time, it cannot assume or interfere in the responsabilities that the Constitution and the laws confer to the municipal bodies of People's Power.

The Governor is the highest executive-administrative official in his province; hence, he or she organizes and directs the Provincial Administration. They are also responsible for the National Assembly of People's Power, the Council of State, the Council of Ministers, and the Provincial Council, to which he reports and informs them of his performance.
