Havana, January 10 (RHC)-- The president of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, as well as the Councils of State and Ministers, sent flowers on Friday to the Memorial that keeps the ashes of student leader Julio Antonio Mella, on the 91st anniversary of his assassination.

The flowers joined the tribute paid by the young people of Havana to the revolutionary at the foot of the steps of the city's University.

Monica Mestre, president of the University Student Federation (FEU) at the university, declared to the Cuban National News Agency that Mella continues to belong to that class of immortal men whose virtues become a fruitful seed and therefore he lives in the hearts of all Cubans.

"The student leader is a figure in Cuban history who is very close to the new generations, who know how to be dignified and generous like him," she said.

In his Twitter account, the Cuban president described the life of Julio Antonio Mella as a paradigm for all young Cubans and shared an article from the newspaper Granma that recalls the funeral honors given to his remains in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana by the top leaders of the Revolution in 1975.
