Caracas, April 22 (RHC)-- Cuban health professionals remain deployed fighting the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in Venezuela, stated Reinol Garcia, head of the Cuban medical mission in Caracas.

Garcia said that Cuba has 21,600 health collaborators in Venezuelan territory, 12,000 of which are researching possible cases of the disease in all communities of this South American country.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Garcia stressed that these tasks have the laudable result of carrying out more than 350,000 rapid tests to detect the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen in the population.

The intensive research and house-to-house visits -- along with the social isolation measures implemented by the Bolivarian government -- are the reasons why Venezuela does not currently have a catastrophic health situation like other countries in Latin America and the rest of the world, the head of the medical brigade said.

Cuban doctors and other health workers are also working in the Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI) treating Venezuelan patients, not only those who have been affected by coronavirus, but also by other common pathologies, Garcia said.
