Havana, April 22(RHC) With the passing of two COVID-19 patients on Tuesday, Cuba accumulates 40 deaths since the first people tested positive on the island last March 11.

During the media briefing for an update on the situation for the pandemic, the Chief of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Duran, said that based on the 1,182 confirmed cases as of Tuesday, Cuba is exhibiting a fatality rate of 3,36%.

Asked about a comparison of this indicator to those exhibited by the world and the region of the Americas, Duran said that it is relatively low, but that Cuban authorities want to lower it even more.

The lethality in the world stands at 6.9, and in the Americas, at 5.31.
After acknowledging that most of the deceased suffered from existing pathologies, the expert recalled that lethality has much to do with the quality of medical care.

Taking care of people in risk groups before they develop the disease has become an essential tool to improve their innate immunity.
