Havana, April 23 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel highlighted this Thursday the upcoming celebration of International Workers' Day, complying with the measures of social distancing established to isolate COVID-19.

On his official Twitter account, the Cuban president pointed out that for May 1st, the Confederation of Cuban Workers (CTC) called for celebrations by protecting oneself and ones community from the coronavirus.

"That will be our celebration.  Also with solidarity, songs, posters, flags and messages," wrote Díaz-Canel.

Yesterday, at the commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of the leader of the world proletariat, Vladimir Ilich Lenin, the secretary general of the CTC, Ulises Guilarte, called for May Day celebrations to take place... from home.  He pointed out that although the day will be commemorated under very different conditions than usual, it will be with the same enthusiasm and spirit of victory that "nothing and no one will be able to change."
